Lexapro (Escitalopram) is used to treat depression. Lexapro is a member of the family of medications known as antidepressants (mood elevators) called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). Escitalopram offer advantages in the treatment of depression and generalized anxiety disorder. SSRIs are thought to work by increasing the activity of the chemical serotonin, a natural substance in the brain that helps maintain mental balance.
Lexapro is a medication licensed as a means of treating depression and generalized anxiety disorder. Lexapro increases the supply of a chemical in the brain called serotonin which helps restore the brain's chemical imbalance and thus decreases depression and anxiety. The symptoms for depression and anxiety often overlap. The depression and some other conditions occur when the amount of serotonin gets uneven. The medication stops the reuptake of the chemical and more of it stays between the nerve cells. Thus, the remaining amount of serotonin activates the receptors of adjacent nerve cells easier. The clinical research of those patients who were taking Lexapro revealed its effectiveness in curing depression and generalized anxiety disorder.
