Tretinoin is the active ingredient in generic Renova. Renova is a cream version of Retin A. Regular Retin A is gel-based, not cream. Renova is designed more for those with dry skin and anti-aging. Tretinoin cream was developed for acne treatment. It reduces the formation of pimples and promotes quick healing of pimples that develop, especially in the cases of blackheads, pimples and papules.
The only big difference between Renova and other forms of tretinoin is that the Renova uses more skin-soothing agents in the cream so there might be less irritation. A lot of people still use the generic cream form of tretinoin for anti-aging purposes, and it usually works well.
Most non prescription skin care products only act as dermal exfoliators, simply removing surface skin and allowing underlying tissue to rise to the surface. Renova does not promote exfoliation. Renova works at the cellular level to modify gene expression, subsequent protein synthesis, surface skin growth and differentiation. Tretinoin emollient cream decreases fine wrinkles (secondary to chronic sun exposure and the natural aging process), improves rough and course skin, to more supple and soft skin, and effective against stretch marks seen on the abdominal wall in women especially after pregnancy.
Before taking Renova inform your if you have any pre-existing skin disorders or if you have any allergies. This medication increases your sensitivity to the sun. Limit sun exposure and avoid sun lamps. Use a sunscreen and wear protective clothing when outdoors. Tell your doctor of any nonprescription or prescription medication you may take including isotretinoin, amiodarone, tetracycline or quinolone antibiotics, sulfa-drugs or phenothiazines as they increase skin sensitivity to the sun. Also minoxidil and any skin medication, soaps, cleansers, cosmetics, astringents.
Any drug taken in excessive amounts can cause serious harm to your health. In case you suspect Renova overdose, seek medical assistance as soon as possible. Renova overdose is similar to that of vitamin A and can cause the following symptoms: abdominal pain, dizziness, dry or cracked lips, facial flushing, incoordination and clumsiness, headache, vomiting.
